Carole Fredericks: Music Is Only the Beginning focuses on a multicultural singer and humanitarian, Carole Denise Fredericks of Springfield, Massachusetts who rose to the top of music charts in both Europe and West Africa in the 1990s. This French unit was developed by Nancy Gadbois, High School of Science and Technology, Springfield, MA,  for Middle school through postsecondary students.

 

A Technology-rich Unit from La peinta colorada is adapted form a Lesson 5 of "A thematic unit: La peineta colorada" (Montas & Cannon, 2003, published by the NFLRC http://nflrc.iastate.edu/pubs/units/unitsList.htm).  This Spanish unit is authored by Michele Montas who teaches in a technology-rich school, Trevor Day School, New York, New York, and illustrates in this unit how  technology can transform the teaching of a thematic unit in a middle school foreign language classroom.

 

L'Afrique Francophone de l'Ouest: Aspects Culturels et Litterarires is authored by Karen Willetts-Kokora, Springbrook High School, Montgomery County Public Schools, Rockville, Maryland.
This unit is written for upper-level secondary students of French and touches on a variety of aspects of francophone West Africa. Lessons include basic geography, history, and country profiles as well as West African monetary system, oral tradition, musical instruments, and typical African poems and folktales.
