This unique resource describes foreign language assessment instruments
currently in use in elementary and middle schools across the country. Each
entry includes information on availability, current users of the instrument,
type of program the instrument is used in, intended grade level, intended
test publication date, cost, length, test materials, format, and scoring
method. This book also provides a wealth of resources related to foreign
language assessment including books, articles, Internet resources, and
guidelines and resources from Australia.
Lynn Thompson, of the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) in Washington,
DC, began the preparation of this document during the 1994-1995 year, as
part of CAL's subcontract with the National K-12 Foreign Language Resource
Center. During this year, she completed a national search to identify assessment
instruments used in foreign language education in kindergarten through
eighth grade. An annotated bibliography of those instruments was prepared
and published by ERIC in print format as the "K-8 Foreign Language
Assessment: A Bibliography" (148 pages).
Because of the growing interest in assessment and the constant development
of new instruments, an update to the bibliography was prepared during the
1995-96 year. For the revision, K-8 classroom teachers were asked to submit
instruments they use in their classrooms for possible inclusion. This document
was then published by the Center for Applied Linguistics and Delta Systems.
