In 1998, ACTFL and the National K-12 Foreign Language
Resource Center at Iowa State University, Ames, initiated the New
Visions Project, a series of activities and meetings that brought
together leaders in foreign language education to discuss the future
of the foreign language profession. In June 2000, some 164 participants
gathered for a working retreat that culminated in the initial draft
of an action plan for the profession. Participants in this open
forum receive information about this draft plan and will have the
opportunity to react to it and provide additional ideas.
