Day 4: Tuesday, July 2, 2002

Lori Winne (Ohio) describes the elementary school foreign language classroom activities she will analyze as part of her action research project.

For her project Frieda Robins (New York) will focus on discovering what effect children’s achievement in Hebrew has on parents’ choice for their children’s continued religious education.

Doug Hartman (University of Pittsburgh) addressed the action researcher’s interpretation and display of data to “tell the heart of the story.” Here he refers to one of the textbooks used in the institute to point out examples of how data can be effectively displayed.

Doug Hartman provides an example of how Mark Warford and Margaret Rose might visually display their data on L1 and L2 use in the classroom.

Doug Hartman shares a suggestion for Heather Hendry on how she might display her data to clarify the content connections established between the Spanish classes and content classes.

Richard Donato (University of Pittsburgh) discusses the value of this institute as professional development.

Julio Rodriguez (Iowa) describes his theory enactment study that will examine the process of creating a multimedia program to support L2 teacher education.

After the afternoon session ended, Doug Hartman, Julio Rodriguez, and Mark Warford continue discussing Julio’s study.
