Students identify the names and colors of the creatures for the sea as they review what they learned last week.

Sra. Gullickson helps children learn the term "cangrejo" (crab) in preparation for a song she will teach them.

Five students use hand puppets of "cangrejitos" (baby crabs) to illustrate the song Sra. Gullickson introduces about five baby crabs. The baby crabs wander away to play and only four come back when their mother calls. Another time only three return, then two, one, and none. Finally all five return when their mother calls them.

Sra. Gullickson introduces students to a food chain among creatures of the sea: the "anguila" (eel) eats the "pulpo" (octopus), which eats the "cangrejo" (crab).

Janet Glass listens to a participant's input on the topic of creating a rubric to assess students' ability to tell a story.

As participants learn about elementary school foreign language program models they introduce their classmates to a program model from the book "Lessons Learned: Model Early Foreign Language Programs." Jennifer Pecoraro (on left) takes on the role of the foreign language teacher in the Larchmont Elementary School program, Toledo Public Schools, Toledo, Ohio; Tara Penyak acts as the program supervisor; and Arnaldo Cordero-Roman, the principal. They describe their program to the class and answer questions about it.

Elizabeth Walsh takes on the role of a parent who is considering enrolling her
children in Bay Point Elementary School, Pinellas County Public Schools, Florida.
Partricia Bazan-Figueras takes on the role of principal and Carolyn Andrade
and Luz Alvarez, the role of teachers in the school, as they respond to her
questions about their foreign language program.
