K-8 Foreign Language: Leading
the Way with Teacher Preparation 2001
Activity Photos

As she finalizes this activity, Sra. Gullickson reviews the text about "EL Sol" (The Sun) that she introduces to students using gestures, facial expressions, and other cues to help them understand the meaning. Then after she removes all of the stick-on visuals from the text, the students take turns selecting and replacing the appropriate visual to complete each sentence.

Mariá Isabel "visits" the class and helps introduce students to the beach and the creatures that live in the ocean such as the lobster, crab, and shark. Here, wearing her dark glasses, she relaxes beside Sra. Gullickson.

Sra. Gullickson wears a sombrero from Mariá Isabel’s beach bag. A starfish and octopus are visible in the ocean.

After the children leave the Spanish class, institute participants dialogue with Rita Gullickson (back to camera) about the strategies she used in planning and teaching the class. Here, Martin Smith, who collaborated in arranging for the institute and who visited during the first two days, admires the meaningfulness of every part of the lesson, and notes that all parts led toward a pre-determined goal.
