Activity Photos
Tuesday, July 17

The day began with the Children’s Spanish class, which was held at Village School, West Windsor Plainsboro School District, New Jersey. Eighteen students who had completed kindergarten and first grade attended their first one-hour Spanish class taught by Rita Gullickson.

Sra. Gullickson teaches the children a song about the sun while forming the sun with her arms as she sets the scene for their future imaginary trip to the
beach.

The first activity of the methods course takes place in the same room as the children’s class. Here Lucrecia (Dayci) Chivukula and Linda Pesce interview each other as they prepare to introduce their partner to participants and leaders in the methods course.

In the methods classroom, Carol Ann Dahlberg addresses the concept of comprehensible input by defining the process as "building up a treasury of meanings."

Carol Ann Dahlberg finalizes a demonstration class in German that included TPR, prediction, repetition, humor, culture, and imagination by directing the class orchestra.

Helena Curtain responds to a question about how to help children gain the confidence to speak in the second language.
