During the first day of the institute, Jamey Hansen, CTLT Labs Manager, introduces participants to the state-of-the-art multimedia computer lab. The lab, which was installed two weeks ago, uses space-saving equipment to better accommodate digital video projects and collaborative, group-based instruction.

Karen Willetts, institute leader, prepares to introduce participants to the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers and Students.

Participants preview and evaluate a variety of software for foreign language
education. Here Gloria Velez-Rendon (on left) and Lisa Huempfner are intensely
absorbed in the task.

Sandra Alexander (on left), who also attended the 1994 New Technologies institute, and Gregory Baer collaborate on evaluating software.

Participants discuss the role of software in Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI). Note that the small laptop monitors facilitate group discussion in the lab by allowing visual access to everyone in the group.
